GameMaker Studio (Session 5)

Rising Grades 5 to 6

Design, code, and play your own unique game creations.

In this game design course using GameMaker Studio, students dive into the fundamentals of creating their own games from start to finish. They learn how to design characters, build engaging levels, and program basic gameplay mechanics, all while exploring the GameMaker interface and tools. Through hands-on activities, students develop skills in coding player movements, implementing interactive objects, and designing different game elements like backgrounds and sound effects.

Projects in this course challenge students to bring their creativity and ideas to life. They might design a platformer game with unique levels, a top-down adventure with quests and NPCs, or a puzzle game filled with interactive challenges. Other students might try their hand at a scrolling shooter or a simple RPG demo, adding elements like enemies, collectable items, and scoring systems. Each project offers a step-by-step process that allows students to build, test, and refine their games, culminating in a complete, playable experience.

By the end of the course, students leave with a well-rounded game design project and foundational skills in coding, problem-solving, and creative storytelling. They gain confidence in using game design tools and feel proud of the unique games they have built from scratch. Whether they want to continue in game development or simply enjoy sharing their projects with friends and family, students take away a sense of accomplishment and excitement for what they’ve created.
